Project description

Discovering colour-intensive imagery

Painting that invites discovery – Monika Michalko artfully breathes life into her works with organic, abstract elements and the use of intense colours. Imaginative worlds, partly inspired by travelling and memories, are characteristic of the artist. The exhibition catalogue includes 252 colour and black and white illustrations of the works that were exhibited at the Kunsthalle Nürnberg in summer and autumn 2024 and at the Kunstmuseum Engen in winter 2024/2025.

The eye-catching hardcover succeeds in capturing the viewer’s attention at first glance and taking them on a journey through the exhibition: The fine linen material of the cover is printed with a section of Michalko’s works. In addition, the typography on the title and spine is finished with a metallic foil embossing in a perfectly coordinated colour that seems to merge with the detail of the painting.

Opening the Swiss hardcover reveals an open thread stitching as well as the 4-colour black and white printed mirror.

Three different types of paper were used for the contents. The majority is made up of 160 pages of FSC paper, mostly printed in full colour, with 96 pages bound at the beginning and 64 at the end. 56 pages of dyed-through content paper in pink form the second block and were printed with a special HKS colour in petrol. This is followed by the third paper used with 16 pages in lemon yellow – this is also dyed through and printed in 1-colour in black.

The thread-stitched book block is connected to the U3 with a 4-page, dyed-through and unprinted endpaper. Its bright turquoise colour forms a fitting conclusion to this colourful book.
