Mischa Kuball
Wienand VerlagThe effect of light as a clear sign
At the turn of the year 2021/22, the sculpture museum „Glaskasten Marl“ left its long-standing and well-known location in the Marl City Hall. (BLACKOUT) was the last exhibition to be held there and was planned as an effective finale. With (BLACKOUT) the concept artist Mischa Kuball set a radiant light sign for the glass box.
In the process, a number of sculptures selected by the artist from the museum’s collection can be seen during the day in a white cube enclosed in white fabric, and in the darkness they cast shadows visible from the outside. For this museum farewell, a light sign, visible from afar and slowly pulsating, shines from both city hall towers and from the glass box into the night.
The hardcover with a format between DIN A5 and DIN A4 is published by Wienand Verlag and includes a total of 64 pages. Of these, 32 pages are printed on transparent paper in 1-colour black and simulate the play of light and shadow in the illuminated glass box. The book cover, which is covered with scratch-resistant matte foil, is additionally finished with a partial UV gloss varnish, allowing the typo to shine only when backlit.
