Regional nature protection project

Sustainability

Our fourth planting campaign

In fall 2020, we launched the “Young giants for the next 100 years” project together with the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. Together, we are committed to transforming a monotonous pine forest into a climate-stable mixed deciduous forest by planting young deciduous trees in selected forest areas.

The special feature: In this nature protection project directly at our production site, pine forest is specifically converted into mixed deciduous forest. This involves planting hardy young trees such as beech, sycamore maple, hornbeam, small-leaved lime and birch – from seeds of old “giants” from the nature park, which are grown in our own tree nursery. Regular care and watering ensure growth, while individual trees are protected from browsing by game. This safeguards the tree population and creates a sustainably stable ecosystem to ensure that the forest remains viable for the next 100 years.

Since the start of the project, we have also been offering our customers the opportunity to support the regional nature protection project by paying a small surcharge on the order value for the production of analog or digital data carriers, printed matter and books. In return, you receive a sustainable product and the corresponding contribution is invested in reforestation.

Thanks to the commitment of our customers and the involvement of optimal media and Edel SE & Co. KgaA, several planting campaigns have already been made possible in recent years and 3,400 trees have been planted so far. The growth rate is estimated at around 80 to 90 %, which is a very good figure.

After optimal employees and their families took part in planting for the first time in November 2023, they met again at the end of March with their young and old relatives and representatives of the nature park to put new tree seedlings in the ground. In a wooded area near Lake Drewitz, everything was already well prepared for further reforestation. Everyone lent a hand and 1500 “young giants” were quickly planted in the ground.
